In December 2019, in the city of Wuhan (China) the first cases of a new disease were
described, initially discovered by producing a severe acute respiratory syndrome. The
research carried out in these patients confirmed that the etiological agent was a virus
belonging to the Coronaviridae family. It was designated with the name SARS-CoV-2.
The disease produced by this virus was called COVID-19 (Acronym for Coronavirus
Disease, corresponding to the 19th year of its appearance), through the following
review we want to expose the physiopathologic behavior of the pediatric patient in
the face of coronavirus infection and collect in the different literary evidence that
makes its low prevalence and possible protective factors of this age group.
Especially since the literature is segmented between the low incidence of the virus
in this age group at the beginning of the pandemic and is contrasted as an increase
in manifest positivity and mortality in this niche. Finally, the behavior of Covid 19 at
a systemic level and the best therapeutic options available so far will be detailed.
Taking as a transversal contribution the support of diagnostic imaging services in
early diagnosis and follow-up that may be vital to reduce lethality and future sequelae
in the child.
