Psychodermatology is a subspecialty shared by dermatology and psychiatry that explores the interactions between the skin and the brain (1). Both the skin and the central nervous system are derived from the ectoderm during embryogenesis, thus sharing a close anatomical and functional relationship (2). For many patients, skin diseases affect their quality of life and mental wellbeing. For others, psychiatric problems manifest with signs on the skin. This article will address the classification of primary and secondary psychodermatological disorders, the latter often forgotten and related to the psychiatric consequences of dermatological treatments, as well as the dermatological consequences of psychiatric treatments.
