Abstract

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men worldwide, age
continues to be a risk factor for its development, as do genetic factors. The prognosis
depends a lot on the stage at which it is diagnosed, the factors that determine its
staging are based on the extent of the disease, the degree of Gleason and levels
of prostate antigen, which will guide medical management, surgical approach is
proposed and in advanced stages the treatment is based on androgen castration
accompanied by inhibition of androgen receptor signaling and chemotherapy.
In the case of patients with metastatic prostate cancer, it is required a
multidisciplinary team willing to provide comprehensive management that takes
into account the expectations of the patient and their caregivers, without neglecting
medical management; non-pharmacological alternatives and adjuvant therapies are
taken into account in order to improve the patient’s quality of life.
