At the end of 2019, a new coronavirus was identified as the cause of several cases
of pneumonia in Wuhan, a city in the province of Hubei in China, with subsequent
exponential growth of its spread initially in its country of origin and later worldwide,
reaching the point of being officially declared a pandemic approximately 3 months
after its appearance.
In general, it has been established that there is a significant proportion of patients
with SARS-CoV-2 underdiagnosed, because on the one hand, several of them are
asymptomatic and others are not studied because their clinical picture is similar to
that of other respiratory viruses; however, it has been determined that of those who
develop symptoms about 80% have mild, 15% severe and 5% critical symptoms, with
an estimated lethality of 2.3%.
Due to the characteristics of the virus and the natural history of the disease, the
main symptoms, complications and sequelae (regardless of the severity), are those
related to the respiratory tract and the pulmonary system; however, affection can also
develop in multiple organs of the body.
This article seeks to review the literature and determine the main sequelae of COVID
19 and what is related to them at the pulmonary level (as it is the main affected system
as previously mentioned), as well as intends to evaluate the conditions at the cardiac,
dermatological and oculotorhinolaryngological level, the above taking into account
the post-pandemic moment in which we find ourselves and the knowledge and
research that has been developed.
